Heroes Made in Asia is more than anime & manga. This year you can dive into three themed areas that bring Asian culture to life:

Table of Contents

Korean District

South Korea has rapidly developed into a global cultural phenomenon where tradition and modernity come together. The worldwide popularity of K-pop and K-beauty has a huge influence on contemporary music, fashion and pop culture in the Western world. Aspiring K-pop stars can learn how to achieve the look of a true K-pop idol during one of the live demonstrations and masterclasses in the Korean District.

Another important part of South Korea’s identity is food, with dishes such as gimbap symbolising traditional cuisine that remains hugely popular in the modern world. In the meantime, the West has also taken the South Korean kitchen to its heart. Expand your knowledge during the Narcotic Kimbap masterclass, where you will learn how to make this simple yet flavourful rice roll like a true local.

Japanese Matsuri

Japan has a rich and fascinating history full of traditions, art and warrior culture that are still visible in modern life. In the Japanese Matsuri you can take part in interactive workshops about the extraordinary world of geishas and samurai.

Immerse yourself in the refined world of the geisha and learn all about their history and role in Japanese culture. Here you will discover everything about their traditional clothing, hairstyles, dance and posture. Or step into the world of the legendary samurai warriors. These historical figures and customs form a bridge between past and present, through which Japanese culture is continually reshaped in modern pop culture.

Pasar Indonesia

Indonesia has a diverse history that is still clearly tangible in modern life, especially in its culinary traditions. Indonesian cuisine is characterised by fragrant spices, colourful dishes and regional specialities. Dishes such as nasi goreng, rendang and satay play an important role in contemporary food culture, including in the Netherlands. Food symbolises hospitality, family, culture and pride.

At the Pasar Indonesia, you will be taken on a flavourful journey through the country. Here you will discover intense flavours and can take part in fascinating tastings.
